Food Tales and Themes

There are six main categories as the Exhibition themes - see introductory text about each theme below.

Each theme has approximately three-five different groups involved in the research. Photos and discussion took place within each group.

We include a montage of the photos taken for each group to give a flavour and accompany each of the stories but the photos are produced in their entirety in the Gallery 

Balance and diversity

This theme highlights the notion of balanced and diverse food in a variety of food groups. It explores the strategies of sourcing food, according to colour, ingredients and texture while attempting to achieve nutritional balance through proteins, vegetables, and grains.

Food quality and safety

This theme emphasize the avoidance of additives, preference for home-cooked meals, and freshness. It explores the issues around sourcing organic ingredients, the process of making home-cooked food vs.eating out or store-bought food and homemade snacks.

Tastes and preferences

This theme focuses on dishes catered to children's tastes and examines the various customizations for children’s palates that parents make and the use of the child's favourite ingredients.

Different age groups

This theme reflects the specific needs of different age groups looking at: Infant-safe food; preschool; and primary school age requirements.

Urban vs rural

This theme showcases the contrast in ingredient sourcing and preparation styles using supermarkets, farmers markets, and internet to purchase raw materials and local and homegrown produce

Resources and culture

This theme highlights some additional factors such as family and grandparents influences, advice from elders, story telling, nutritional awareness from learning from others in culture, online and traditional recipes passed down.
