What is Posters in Parliament?
Posters in Parliament takes place annually in the heart of UK Government and brings together a remarkable collection of the best undergraduate research from across the country in an academic posters exhibition.
Participating higher education institutions are given the opportunity to select two student research projects and the student researchers to present their research to MPs, Peers, decision makers and policy makers based in UK Parliament. They're also encouraged to invite guests, such as the students' academic supervisors and MPs local to their institution. At Posters in Parliament 2025, over 50 undergraduate students, representing 25 universities from across the UK exhibited their research.
MPs, Peers, policymakers and decision-makers attend the poster exhibition to read and discuss firsthand some of the innovative research taking place around the country by student researchers. It is also a great opportunity for students from different institutions and subject areas to share their research and ideas. An important opportunity as the modern world faces big challenges in a huge range of areas such as energy, health and sustainability. The success of Posters in Parliament clearly demonstrates that we have a new generation of emerging researchers able to meet those challenges.
The poster exhibition is also complemented with additional activities, over the years these have included a workshop on "Getting your Voice Heard in UK Parliament", competitions for the best posters and tours of the House of Lords.
The event was inspired by the US Posters on the Hill event, where students were sent by their universities to present their work to the House of Representatives and the Senate in the United States of America. Today Posters in Parliament is an integral part of the British Conference of Undergraduate Research (BCUR).
Established in 2011, BCUR is an open coalition of universities dedicated to encouraging a national culture of undergraduate research, which grows every year, giving more undergraduate students the opportunity to experience real research at the cutting edge of their field. Many of the student researchers go on to publish their work in highly rated journals and then develop their research even further as postgraduate research students.
Having witnessed the winning formula, a number of European institutions are now developing their own Posters in Parliament events, culminating with a joint poster event at the European Parliament, Posters in Brussels.
Posters in Parliament in the UK is developed and organised by the Student Research team at the Institute for Advanced Teaching and Learning, along with Prof Jane Bryan from the School of Law, both at the University of Warwick, on behalf of BCUR.
