Effect of surface roughness on the motion and wakes of rolling spheres

The talk will present a study of the relationship between surface roughness and the combined effects of hydrodynamic drag and rolling resistance on the motion of a sphere rolling without slipping on an inclined wall. The aim is to address the Rolling Paradox, whereby infinite forces resist sphere rolling for perfectly smooth surfaces.
