Law School research partner appointed to national task force by the Supreme Court of India

Dr Nidhi Sabharwal's internationally recognised research on the role of caste and gender based discrimination, and forms of inter-group inequalities more generally, within higher education has been recognised at the highest level in India. Nidhi has been appointed to a national task force set up by the Supreme Court of India following its recent judgment in Amit Kumar & Ors. v. Union of India.

The case concerned specifically the suicide of two students studying at high profile higher education institutions in India, but raised wider concerns relating to the challenges faced by students from disadvantaged and marginalised groups.

Nidhi is a National Fellow at the Centre for Policy Research in Higher Education (CPRHE), National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), New Delhi, India and honorary research fellow in Warwick's Education Studies department.

Nidhi along with Professor Ann Stewart (Law) and Professor Emily Henderson (Education Studies) have been working together for a number of years on projects relating to the challenges faced by disadvantaged young women and men who are the first in their families to access higher education in India. At present she is co-Principal research partner on the Fair Chance Foundation project 'Widening Access to Higher Education in India: Institutional Approaches' (Co-PI Emily Henderson DES, Co-I Ann Stewart, Law, 2022-2026) and honorary visiting fellow at Warwick's Education Studies Department.

Congratulation Nidhi from everyone at Warwick Law School on this incredible appointment.
