Warwick strengthens academic collaborations with Japan

On 15 May 2025, The University of Warwick was honoured to welcome a distinguished delegation from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) LondonLink opens in a new window. This visit provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen academic ties and explore new avenues for collaboration between Warwick and leading Japanese institutions.
The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science is Japan’s leading funding agency and is largely funded through annual subsidies from the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Established in 1932, JSPS promotes the advancement of academic research in all disciplines from social sciences and humanities to natural sciences and engineering.

The day commenced with an engaging presentation from the JSPS representatives, offering insights into the organisation’s mission and outlining a range of funding opportunities designed to support UK–Japan academic exchange. Warwick academics shared highlights of their research with Japanese partners across a broad range of disciplines including Engineering, Chemistry, Antimicrobial Resistance, and Modern Languages.
Professor Sai Gu, Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (East and Southeast Asia), was delighted to host the JSPS London team, led by Professor Masahiko Hara, Director of JSPS London and accompanied by Dr. Yumiko Myoken and Ms. Asuka Nishida.
